Hello! And Welcome to Star Dragon Herps! We’re a small but growing collection of people and reptiles, mostly Western (or Plains) Hognose Snakes, Heterodon nasicus to be specific, a few rescued Leopard Geckos, Eublepharis macularius, and a handful of Nicaraguan Dwarf Boas, Boa Constrictor imperator.
Let’s start with the Hognose! We’ll go roughly in age order:
First up we have Shippo. Born in December of 2014 was named for the Fox demon child in the anime Inuyasha. This little Albino is absolutely full of energy, never stops moving, he is totally curious, and down to be held day or night.
Following is Tomba, He’s a bit more reluctant when it comes to visitation and he’s a bit of an odd fellow. He got his name from the chompy titicular character of the Tomba game, since he was the first Hognose ever to bite me. He was born in October of 2017 and sadly passed away in early 2023. He did leave us with multiple beautiful babies to remember him by.

Once Tomba was settling in well, we picked up a girl for him. Sheik got her name when she was the first of our snakes to successfully escape her enclosure. We later figured out the lid had a flaw, but she went from a glass tank on a shelf, to a box on top of a filing cabinet across the room somehow. Her strange vanishing and reappearing act gave her the name of the character Sheik, from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. She was born in June of 2018 and is one of our regular breeders now.

Starting in 2020, my tiny snake breeding project was joined by more of my family, and we rapidly expanded future plans with more babies.
Our first acquisition was Benihime, born in July of 2020. She is a sassy little girl, her lovely red markings and distinct personality earned her the name of the Crimson Princess from Bleach. She’s growing nicely!

Next we picked up Ahsoka, who was born in June of 2020, is a robust, beautiful girl and the second snake ever to bite me. She knows what she’s about though, and her vivaciousness inspired us to name her after the Star Wars character.

Following that we have Harribel born in August of 2020. My youngest sister has wanted a platinum hognose ever since she first laid eyes on one, and when this lovely lady came available she didn’t want to miss out! The beautiful triple extended head stamp inspired the name Harribel from the BLEACH character.

Stripe was a bit of an impulse buy, but he was so pretty, and had so much potential we just couldn’t pass him up! He was also born in August of 2020. For the longest time he was just ‘stripe’ for the bright yellow band down his spine. We all debated long and hard for a more particular name, until the jokingly suggested “Stripe Spiegel” just stuck. Punnily named after the main character of Cowboy Bebop and possibly just as adventurous.

My pseudo-twin sister has been quite fascinated with the “RBE Pastel” morph, so when a lovely little Pastel-Conda popped up she decided it would be a fun add to our projects. Thus hyper little Jubilee joined our family, named after the character from X-Men. Jubi was born in July of 2020 but even though she started as an amazing eater; somewhen she decided that live prey is what she wants all the time. She will deign to eat frozen/thawed sometimes but in so doing she has fallen behind her year-mates.

And lastly for 2020 babies, is the tiny little Kirara, a source of fret that year. We knew going in that this teeny girl was a stubborn eater, but after Agrias, I was up to the challenge. Not that my patient determination could overwhelm her desire to brumate her first year. (and that was stressful!) She has been eating like a champ and catching up to her year mates ever since! The little flame-like headstamp and her lovely color inspired us to name her after the fire cat from Inuyasha.

In early 2021 we were still struggling to get some of our older females up to a safe responsible breeding weight. So when the opportunity arose we picked up a couple well started females and one proven breeder to round out our group! Conceptually this is a bit risky, but we were careful to select snakes from well-reputed breeders.
First of those was Ginger, born sometime in 2018. This lovely girl got to a good size quickly in 2021 but then feigned gravidity to the point of fatness. We spent all summer trying to work her back down, but she wasn’t having it! Then to our shock, she laid two clutches of infertile eggs in late fall, early winter! She shed the extra weight, (and then a little) and looks pretty good. So hopefully she’ll stick to a more normal schedule in the future.

Next up is Rogue who was also born sometime in 2018. Originally we were going to call her Polaris, for her lovely green color, but she’s such a terrible flirt (desperate for the boys!) that we changed our mind, and named her after the scintillating X-men character. She stubbornly refused to put on weight in any regularity, but it looks like she might be ready to breed starting 2023!

Lastly but FAR from least we have our purchased proven breeder! Here’s Mary Ann, a big beautiful girl who gave us our whopping 16 strong clutch of 2021! She’s been great to work with and really is just a stunner. She was sold as 66% Het Albino, but after pairing her with Shippo in 2021, we’re pretty confident that didn’t prove out. She is the second eldest snake in our collection, born sometime in 2015.

2021 Babies! We picked up a few more choice little ones to round out our project base, and with our two successful clutches, we held back a few as well.
Here we have Rikuo, named after the main character of the anime Nura Rise of the Yokai Clan. This one was actually a birthday present for my Psuedo Sister. He’s our first visual Axanthic and is a fun little guy. He was super chill and very happy to be held at any time. He was born in June of 2020, paired with Mary Ann in 2022 to produce 1 clutch of beautiful sneks, and sadly passed away early in 2023.

After that we have Empress Mii, named after the Flame Empress from Bofuri. Born in July of 2021, this girl is a little spitfire! Suspicious of everything anyone does near her. Takes patience to feed, but thankfully she’s a great eater. We picked her up to eventually pair with Tomba, to get some great color in our Toffee lines. (also she’s just gorgeous!) Since we sadly lost Tomba we are on the lookout for a perfect pair for her when she gets up to breeding size.

Then we have Payne, named after the number one player in Bofuri. Also born in July of 2021, this guy is nicely laid back compared to his fellows, and has some really fun markings! We plan to pair him eventually with one of our holdbacks Ezra Scarlet, one of our own produced females.

After that we have Kuromu, also named after a character from Bofuri (Maple Tree’s Great Shielder). This guy has been a bit sassy and persnickety, but overall a great addition. Another one of the group born in July of 2021; we will probably pair him with our holdback from Tomba and Sheik’s first clutch, Sakura in 2023.

Lastly we have Jyuushiro! Born in 2021 and a particularly beautiful Yeti my little sister could not pass up. Named after the white-haired Captain from the anime BLEACH. We have some interesting ideas for future pairings, but for now, we’re just enjoying his beautiful offspring with our female breeder Benihime.

2021 Holdbacks, we decided to hang onto just a couple little ones from our two successful clutches from this year.
From Sheik and Tomba’s surviving hatchlings, we had one beautiful Toffeebelly. This was our first visual before we acquired Empress Mii and we decided to hold onto this lovely girl! Meet our little Sakura, named by my roommate after the titular character from the anime Card Captor Sakura. She started out with a bit of a shy temperament, but now she is a budding eating machine. She is set to pair with Payne in 2023.

Brother to Sakura, we have Duo, named after the scythe wielder from Mobile Suit Gundam. This guy came out as a near-perfect twinspot! Much to our surprise, and while we know other people have already engaged in this project, we decided to see if we could find a mate for him and try our hand at line breeding for twinspots! Still on the lookout for a toffee twinspot girl, so we’ll see what we can do.

From Mary Ann and Shippo’s clutch we only chose one, we have a lot of Het Albino and visual albino in our collection, but this one, (originally nicknamed “Pretty Girl”) was just too lovely to pass up! We’ve decided to call her Ezra Scarlet, after the draconic character in Fairy Tail.

Veldora was acquired in September of 2021. He was named for the always-snacking Dragon from an Anime called ‘That Time I was Reincarnated as a Slime’ since he tries to bite everything. This boy is psyco. On the other hand he is also a very pretty ToffeeGlow Conda. Just watch your fingers when around him.

On to 2022, my psuedo sister really wanted to start up our Mai Tai line so we added Gambit to our snek family. He is curious in the extreme, always looking at anything and everything he can. Earned his name after the smooth Cajun in XMen for his sweet nature and constant love of movement. 2023 is the first year we will be pairing him with Rogue to see if we can produce some visually Sable babies. Oh, and the name pairing was a total accident but it’s still funny.

Since Rogue has yet to produce for us we wanted to up our Sable game and when we found this guy with lots of potential we snapped him up. In 2022 he was paired with Rogue but sadly nothing was produced. He and Harribel have a possible Het Albino gene and both are Arctic, so this year we will hopefully be proving out that Albino gene, getting some SuperArctic Condas and some 100% het Sables. Born most likely in 2021 Naofumi wins the award of our most Sassy Snek in the collection.

Next into our lineup is Kadaj. We actually got him through our first-ever trade with another Breeder. This gene packed male is a perfect match for Ahsoka so as soon as he is ready she will be his matched pair.

Mitsukuni was another add from my psuedo sister. This time to add some yellow to the majority of the red, green, and silver collection. He is a lovely yellow color that gets more bright with every shed. In 2023 we are pairing him with Jubilee to see what RBE Pastel and Conda can do with his Moph.

Last but not least we have Masamune. A gorgeous Axanthic boy for Mary Ann to possibly be a permanent pair. She has an amazing Het Axanthic gene that comes out beautiful every time, so with this absolute spitfire, we are optimistic they will complement each other well. He is also one of our very sassy Drama Hogs. He won’t take from tongs most of the time but if you leave it in his tunnel he eats every time.
