Hello! And welcome to Star Dragon Herps! We’re a small but growing collection of reptiles, mostly Western (or Plains) Hognose Snakes, Heterodon Nasicus to be specific, and a few rescued Leopard Geckos. Eublepharis macularius.
Let’s start with the Hognose! We’ll go roughly in age order:
First off we have Agrias, named after Agrias Oaks from Final Fantasy Tactics. This girl is the most stubborn and particular snake I’ve ever met. (And yes, I know Hognose are known for it.) Other nicknames for her are Sassy Old Girl, and Cranky Lady, but really she’s a sweetheart when held. it’s just everything else she objects to. Agrias was my very first pet snake or reptile of any kind, and it’s been quite the learning curve with her.

Next up we have Shippo. Named for the Fox demon child in Inuyasha, This little Albino is absolutely full of energy, and never stops moving, he is totally curious, and down to be held day or night.

Following is Tomba, He’s a bit more reluctant when it comes to visitation, and he’s a bit of an odd fellow, but he gets his name from the chompy titicular character of the Tomba game, since he was the first Hognose ever to bite me.

Once Tomba was settling in well, we picked up a girl for him. Sheik got her name when she was the first of our snakes to successfully escape her enclosure. We later figured out the lid had a flaw, but she went from a glass tank on a shelf, to a box on top of a filing cabinet across the room somehow. her strange vanishing and reappearing act gave her the name of the character Sheik, from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Starting in 2020, my tiny snake breeding project was joined by more of my family, and we rapidly expanded future plans with more babies.
Our first aquisition was Benihime me, a sassy little girl, her lovely red markings and distinct personality earned her the name of the Crimson Princess from Bleach. She’s growing nicely, and will hopefully be up to a good size in 2023

Next we picked up Ahsoka, She’s a robust and beautiful girl, and the second snake ever to bite me, she knows what she’s about though, and her vivaciousness inspired us to name her after the Star Wars character.

Following that we have Harribel. My youngest sister has wanted a platinum hognose ever since she first laid eyes on one, and when this lovely lady came available she didn’t want to miss out! The beautiful triple extended head stamp inspired the name Harribel from the BLEACH character.

Stripe was a bit of an impulse buy, but he was so pretty, and had so much potential we just couldn’t pass him up! For the longest time he was just ‘stripe’ for the bright yellow band down his spine, and we debated long and hard for a more particular name, until the jokingly suggested “Stripe Speigal” just stuck. Punnily named after the main character of Cowboy Bebop.

My psuedo-twin sister has been quite facinated with the “RBE Pastel” morph, so when a lovely little Pastel-Conda popped up she decided it would be a fun add to our projects. Thus hyper little Jubilee joined our family, named after the character from X-Men.

And lastly for 2020 babies, is the tiny little Kirara, a source of fret, we knew this teeny girl was a stubborn eater, but after Agrias I was up to the challenge, not that my patient determination could overwhelm her desire to brumate this year. (and that was stressful!) but she’s finally perked up and deigning to eat. Hopefully she’ll start growing like her new mates. The little flame-like headstamp and her lovely color, inspired us to name her after the fire cat from Inuyasha.
